5 Things Not to Do When Playing Basketball

June 14th, 2008 GregWilliams Posted in Sports | No Comments »

You are probably told most often what to do when playing basketball. However, highlighting some things you should not do is also important to mastering the sport. Being able to see what is wrong is a good thing because it allows you to be aware of the things that can get your team fouls or other violations on the court.

Every good player knows the rules, and they know what they can and can not do on the court. These five top things not to do on the court are something every player has to take to heart. One slip up may not be a big deal, but a player who really doesn’t know what they are doing wrong can end up making the team lose the game.

Make sure you and all your teammates understand that doing the following things can ruin the game for everyone.

1. Traveling

Traveling is a direct violation of the rules. Traveling is when you are carrying the ball or performing an illegal dribbling action. Players must recognize the rules regarding traveling and avoid doing it.

Traveling is a simple way to get your team a violation. Fortunately it is a simple thing to avoid if you are constantly aware of the ball and how you are handling it.

2. Losing eye contact

Eye contact is important in almost every team sport. You can not play as a team if you are not connected with your teammates. Eye contact allows you to know where other players are and what they are doing. You can often tell what a player is going to do through eye contact or send messages through eye contact that are subtle and not picked up by the opposing team.

Good eye contact should always be stressed by coaches because when eye contact is bad it leads to the ball being lost and players feeling disconnected from the team.

3. Knowing where the ball is at all times

Every player on the court, no matter where they are playing or if they are playing defense or offense, should always know where they ball is. Losing sight of the ball is a fatal mistake. Plays are missed, points are lost and games take wrong turns when players start to take the ball for granted.

You have to know where the ball is at all times. You have to always be watching where it is going because your goal is to either get the ball in the basket or stop the ball from getting to the basket. If you do not know where it is then you can not do either.

4. Leaving your position

There is always a reason that the coach places each player in certain positions. It is up to the players to follow the coach’s orders and play their position. Unless told otherwise or unless it is a great benefit to the team, a player should always be focused on their position.

When players start to leave their position it weakens the team and allows for mistakes and possible scoring by the other team.

5. Intentional fouls

Lastly, you want to avoid fouls at all costs. Some may be unavoidable and a simple accident. Other fouls, though, are intentional and most often due to a lack of self control. When playing a team sport things can get heated, but players must show self control. Letting your emotions get the best of you is no way to win a game.

So you think having an old age is a big hindrance to your dream of going to your dream country? Think again.

In senior coverage policy, our health has a lot to contribute on determining how much should you pay for the senior travel coverage policy. If you are perfectly healthy despite your old age, you are qualified in getting a cheaper senior travel insurance policy. It is important that you take time to differentiate each policy from different companies and make sure that your choice of plan is the best price that is available in the market. If you are good in researching online or in the papers, you will surely get the best deals ever.

A lot of people love to travel because the opportunity of seeing new things excites them. The reality of not knowing what happens next also contributes to making us feel so excited especially when we are young travelers exploring other traditions and culture of foreign countries.

As we grow older, traveling becomes a bit scary. We worry on the possibilities that things may go wrong and we may not able to survive from it. The medical condition is also a big factor that’s why majority would rather lay in bed to rest than to go out and see the beauty of the world.

A number of factors can determine the total cost of your insurance premium. One of the important factors that you have to consider is the travel guard that you might need in traveling. The coverage deductible, the schedule of paying your premiums and your age are big factors in determining the amount of your student travel insurance premium.

In selecting a plan, it is important that you chose the plan that covers what you really need only. Every plan is different from one another in terms of amount because they vary in coverage.

Nowadays, every insurance company makes an effort to provide the best plans for students in their official website complete with the policies and rates. Contact details are posted too.

Before getting a student travel insurance, you have to know that some offer the travel cost only. Some also include medical coverage but you have to pay an extra fee. Everything depends on how much can you pay. Holiday insurance plans include other coverage such as lost baggage and canceled flights. Other benefits are also offered like theft restitution and reimbursement.

Read your student insurance policy carefully and check if the plan covers the important factors to be covered. See if uncontrollable events like terrorist attacks and natural disasters. Usually, special health expense payments and special lodging benefits will be awarded to you because you are present in these events.

You must keep in mind that when you are traveling using a student insurance, it will have a different benefit and exclusion so don’t expect it to have the same with your parents. It is important that you identify the right plan that can cover the things that need to be covered. You must buy an international insurance plan if you are residing outside Canada or United states.

Students purchasing a regular student travel insurance needs to pay a monthly insurance premium and provide a deductible. Most of these plans cover a medical portion which means that a co-payment will be possibly included.

Don’t Let Life Pass You By

June 13th, 2008 JonCaldwell Posted in Society | No Comments »

Thanks to the rise in aging people in Europe, that corner of the world sees growth in the life insurance industry. The study, form the Comite Europeen des Assurances (CEA) saw the growth trend this year as opposed to last year when the market was greatly affected by the sub-prime market woes in the US. The rise is also attributed to demography meaning more people get offers from more providers allowing better choices for the public. Health and Life insurance many Americans now have to forego due to rising food and fuel prices as opposed to Europe which has mostly stable economies allowing stable growth throughout the industry.

Providers are worried at the current trend that the area of commercial and personal insurance is concerned for they are forecast to flat out this year. The main issue is responsive pricing which would allow more people to get insurance as the prices fluctuate. There is no definite way of saying when the problems that are plaguing the financial sector would at least level off but if the current trend continues, the forecast is not good. The decline in the prices of commercial policies also affects the ability of health insurers to come up with innovative prices that are within reach of the ordinary office worker. Many in America are now left without ample insurance due to problems within the troubled economy. As people get displaced either by the massive lay offs that are expected to come as the troubles worsen, the need for insurance increases and many will surely face uncertainty when the industry is forced again to raise prices.

The insurance industry holds its breath as they await first quarter earnings reports. Forecasts for the year are not at all good but many still manage to hold their own weight with more attentive focus on adapting to current financial industry trends. The lower prices have enticed just enough customers to get health insurance along with the introduction of many personalized packages that are made available for the different needs that exist in the various levels of policy holders. The suspense continues as they await financial reports from the industry leaders who are key in the overall health of the industry. Many have been experiencing a slump in sales but have been able to maintain stability and keep existing policies even getting a few new ones to shore up the statistics.

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority has agreed to move the enactment into law new proposals for changes to the insurance industry. The move would have accredited firms conduct principal reviews for the suitability of such deferred VA applications within only a few days before it is submitted to the insurance company. The amount of time they have specified has been contested by several providers may not be enough to allow them proper review and evaluation. Key representatives of the industry also asked for a different approach to the enforcement of the said rule instead of having a fixed date giving clue to a gradual implementation. The rule has been approved by the US Securities and Exchange Commission last September and has already undergone several revisions to further refine the said rule. The FINRA has also said that they would allow firms time to comply with the rule and they would be handling them in a case to case basis.

A Jamaica Self Catering Villa at Port Antonio

June 13th, 2008 BenThompson Posted in Travel | No Comments »

A Caribbean Vacation Villa on Jamaica overlooking San San Bay called Goblin Hill Villas could almost be a villa hotel, and it certainly is a way of having an affordable holiday in Jamaica, that is essentially self catering but almost feels like a hotel. The only thing it lacks is a restaurant, but the self catering is limited to helping your maid cum cook to do the shopping, because the food she will cook for you is quite outstanding.

To look in more detail at Goblin Hill Villas, because the first thing worth noting is that it is rated the top hotel in the Port Antonio area, and if you can accept that an establishment without a restaurant can be called a hotel and not a self catering villa, then this place is well worth the time it takes to do some in depth study.

Your holiday in Jamaica at Goblin Hill Villas will be spent in 12 acres of beautiful well maintained grounds, with terrific views overlooking San San Beach. This is a wealthy area of Jamaica and some of the villas around here are quite stupendous.

The 20 villas at Goblin Hill Villas are somewhat old fashioned but comfortable, and whilst they do need a bit of updating, this may be part of the charm, sort of fading colonial. They have either one or two bedrooms, each with air conditioning overlooking San San Bay

Your maid is a key to your enjoyment, because she will prepare breakfast and supper for you, and will happily follow your preferences, as well as cook Jamaican specialities. It’s also great fun to go shopping to the colourful market with her, and it does bring you closer to the local way of life, something you miss staying in 5 star supposed luxury. It will cost around USD160 for two weeks of stuffing your face with far more delicious food than you’ll ever get in a hotel restaurant.

In fact what really makes this Caribbean Vacation Villa at Port Antonio in Jamaica so special, apart from the views, the lovely manicured grounds, and the cook, is the fact it is situated in a really unspoilt part of the island, which isn’t touristy at all. It is a three to four hour drive from the airport which isn’t for the faint hearted, but you will need a 4×4 hire vehicle if you are to stay here. If you hire it at the airport you will be driven to Goblin Hill Villas by taxi with the hire vehicle behind, and this is strongly recommended.

You can use the vehicle to explore the stunningly beautiful mountains towards Moore Town, go to Winifred Beach.

You’ll inevitably get ripped off to go to Monkey Island and the Blue Lagoon, but it’s something you need to do whilst you are here. You’ll get a free pass at reception for the beach at Frenchman’s Cove, a bit touristy, but San San Beach although a $20 admission is lovely, almost 1000 yards of private beach, chairs, bar restaurant, and only 500 yeards from Goblin Hill Villas.

If you love calm hideaways, a quiet retreat, with lovely surroundings, a personal chef, and almost a private beach for your holidays, then Goblin Hill Villas could be the best Caribbean Vacation Villa for you, not quite a luxury villa, self catering but not, and definitely an affordable holiday in Jamaica, then choose to come here, you won’t regret it for an instant.

An Exclusive Resort For a Golf and Spa Vacation in Jamaica

June 13th, 2008 BenThompson Posted in Travel | No Comments »

An exclusive resort for a golf and spa vacation in Jamaica enquiry, leads one very quickly to the The Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort in Rose Hall.

It is situated on the historic 5000 acre Rose Hall Plantation Estate at Montego Bay, and The Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort manages to do the almost impossible. It has 427 rooms and suites, so it is a large exclusive resort but somehow it feels intimate and small

This exclusive resort is on the north coast of Jamaica, close to Montego Bay, and it sits in a small cove of its own, and you should be prepared for the fact the beach is small and not as good as many others.

If you are here at the Ritz Carlton for the Spa and the Golf, then you will certainly not be disappointed. The Spa covers 8000 square feet, has more than a dozen private treatment rooms, and the background perfume is an intriguing blend of allspice, the local hugely exported plant.

The treatments available go from The Sugarcane Body Scrub followed by a massage using tropical fruits made up as a cream. You can have the Nourishing Rose Body Wrap, a Close To You Couples Massage, then you can enjoy a Vita-Ginko Facial Treatment. If you want try a Lady of Rose Hall Bath with fragrant flower petals, the Matrimony Fruit Bath for two, and the Cabbage Salt Glow!!

Add to all this a sauna, a steam room, and a Beauty Salon, and all your cares will me massaged, Soaked or melted away before you know where you are!! An upgrade to the already very good facility is underway.

The highlight for golfers is the White Witch Golf Course, which winds its way through the mountainous parts of the Rose Hall Estate, a 10 minute shuttle ride away from the Ritz Carlton, is considered one of the finest golf courses in the Caribbean. It is a par 71 6859 yard course with spectacular ocean views, and a number of tricky holes. The green fees for guests vary between $125 to $189 per round depending on the time of year for hotel guests and whilst they don’t include taxes or a gratuity for the Caddie Concierge they do include the Caddie Concierge Programm, green fees, cart, and practice balls. The Caddy Concierges are an invaluable assist in finding your way round the course, and they will do all the mundane tasks like finding balls, raking bunkers, cleaning clubs, thus making your golf that much more enjoyable.

There is a lot more to this exclusive resort than just the Spa and the Golf. It is a well equipped resort, with good rooms, the four restaurants are excellent, and well mannered staff who look after the guests in a very old fashioned way seldom seen in the twenty first century.

You will enjoy the pool which is big enough, and seldom crowded, with enough sunbeds to go round. For a resort of this size The Ritz Carlton Jamaica never seems that busy, which is a tribute to the thought that went into the design and layout.

This exclusive resort will keep you occupied if you want to be, allow you to relax if you feel like being lazy, and generally justify its claim to being a top Jamaica Resort.

What is Good and Bad Karma?

June 13th, 2008 KeithWard Posted in Society | No Comments »

Karma has long been an idea tossed about in Western popular culture but few people outside of Eastern religions truly understand its significance. To understand the difference between good and bad karma, you must first understand what karma is.

Karma Defined

The easiest way to explain karma in simple terms is that it’s like a cosmic cause and effect cycle. Every action you take leads to a specific effect. For example, if you do a good deed for someone today, there’s a good chance that someone will do a good deed for you in the near future.

While karma may be a new idea to many of us, the concept of cause and effect is not. We all know that if we drive too fast on a wet road then apply our brakes quickly; the effect is likely to be skidding and possibly an accident. We all know that when rain falls it causes the grass to grow.

However, karma has a significant impact on our lives.

The Twofold Impact of Karma

Karma works in our lives in two ways:

*Guiding us towards our purpose in our present life - Each time we are reborn; we come with a purpose, usually to rectify something from our past life. Karma manifests itself as certain themes in our lives, perhaps problems with relationships and by paying attention to these themes and taking steps to change them in our lives we can achieve our karmic goal.

*Repaying us for our actions - In physics, we are taught that each action has an equal and opposite reaction. Karma teaches us this as well. What you do today will have repercussions in your life. That is inevitability.

By understanding these two ways in which our lives are constantly being affected by karma, we can be prepared to recognise the difference between good and bad karma.

Good & Bad Karma

Often we hear “that person has all the luck” but what should really be said is “that person has good karma.” What most of us consider luck is simply the work of karma repaying us for our actions. Sometimes those actions are from our current lives; sometimes from our past experiences. We may not always be able to trace the cause of our luck - good or bad - but we must know that it exists and guides karma’s hand.

Good karma brings us fortunate turns in our lives. We may meet a friend, find happiness, be blessed with financial security, come across a job opportunity, etc. Bad karma, on the other hand, plagues us with misfortune.

However, do not assume that every time something bad happens to you it is because of bad karma or because you have acted badly during one of your lives. In some cases, what we perceive to be an unfortunate turn of events now can lead to wonderful effects. For example, if you lose your job, it may not be a punishment but a way of opening a path to a brighter job opportunity in the near future.

Because we cannot determine the effect our actions will have, we can only strive to do what we think is the right thing and follow the path we believe we are destined to travel.
